Criminal Minds

A huge part of developing the show was based around character development and making sure they covered a vast array of personalities that would make the show interesting for different audiences. They wanted to find people who could draw in an audience and keep them hooked on a character that they have become attached to or to the group as a whole because as the show goes on we start to gain a sense family even in the workplace. They mentioned in the videos that a successful show has a strong sense of family, and that is what they did when developing the show. And I can speak from experience that from watching the show, I connected with the group as a whole. An issue I can see with the production is that there are 25, 45-minute episodes a season, and with the show being bought out so quickly, they had to cast and begin writing the script right away, but the process from paper to camera was much more realistic because of the time spent in pre-production. This is what I would want to focus on.

Coming up with ideas that give the film a strong purpose and keep viewers interested. There was a whole series going along with the preproduction, and I couldn't get through it all, but the amount of work that went into just one film was amazing. They brought in real FBI agents to look over the set and the script to give their advice ensuring that the show turns out as realistic as possible. They even went into talking about the main office where a majority of the scenes are filmed, and the conscious decision to give the perimeter of the room a raised walkway with offices coming off. It adds a sense of community in the center of the room, where a majority of the agents have their own spaces, but then they can have the seclusion and privacy when they need it to be. Also having different depths in the room give it a more appealing feeling for viewers of the show.

I didn’t realize the number of people that went into every little piece of the show. From coming up with ideas for each scene to having to get the right products to carry them out. I found out how many different kinds of blood they have to portray different types of wounds, but also to make them look as realistic as possible. I also learned that one of their biggest restrictions was making sure that they could find the right scenery to make a realistic series of events, and they were restricted to areas around LA due to having so many different episodes that needed to be filmed. I can imagine that that posed quite the challenge for the crew, but it opens up a cool opportunity for a job, as they hired dozens of people to find the correct landscapes with features that would make the scenes that much more convincing.
